Principals of Instruction
At Proven Learning Solutions your one to one tutoring session is quite different than the school setting where children are taught either in whole group or small group, and rarely have the teacher’s full attention. Most classroom instruction today is delivered to students through their auditory senses, which may not be consistent with your child’s learning style. Plus, students that are struggling need effective and intensive intervention to bring them back up to grade level using a Structured approach. The programs I have chosen are designed with these Principles of Instruction:

Simultaneous, Multi-sensory: Teaching is done using all learning pathways in the brain (visual/auditory, kinesthetic-tactile) simultaneously in order to enhance memory and learning.

Systematic and Cumulative: Multi-sensory language/ math instruction requires that the organization of material follows the logical order of the language/ math. The sequence must begin with the easiest and most basic elements and progress methodically to more difficult material. Each step must also be based on those already learned. Concepts taught must be systematically reviewed to strengthen memory.

Direct Instruction: The inferential learning of any concept cannot be taken for granted. Multi-sensory language/ math instruction requires the direct teaching of all concepts with continuous student-teacher interaction.

Diagnostic Teaching: The teacher must be adept at prescriptive or individualized teaching. The teaching plan is based on careful and continuous assessment of the individual’s needs. The content presented must be mastered to the degree of automaticity.

Synthetic and Analytic Instruction: Multi-sensory, structured language/ math programs include both synthetic and analytic instruction. Synthetic instruction presents the parts of the language and then teaches how the parts work together to form a whole. Analytic instruction presents the whole and teaches how this can be broken down into its component parts.

Children that are behind in a school subject often times feel ashamed or embarrassed and are afraid to ask for help. At Proven Learning Solutions your child’s tutoring session is held in a private and comfortable environment.

One to one tutoring in my office can be provided to ensure privacy away from peers.

Homeschool students can choose to have one to one tutoring in the privacy of their own home.

Private school students can work with their school to provide one to one tutoring during school hours.
